1. Introduction

Welcome to ComPress. This Privacy Policy governs the ComPress software application (collectively, the “Services”). This Privacy Policy also explains how we collect, use, share, and otherwise process personal data about users and other individuals in connection with the Services. The Services are provided and operated by HiWay Media S.r.l. with registered office in Milan (Mi), Via Luigi Canonica 29, 20154 Italy.

Below is the information we may collect about you.

2. Information given by the user

Registration Information: when you register on the Services, you provide us with information such as your date of birth, email address and respective passwords set for your account, your accounts on other social networking services (where applicable), and other information that you choose to disclose in your user profile.

User Content: we may collect user-created, uploaded, user-generated content including uploaded photographs, images, and videos, including associated metadata (such as, for example, when, where, and by whom the Content was created). When you create Content, we may upload or import such content to the Services before saving or publishing your Content (an operation known as “pre-loading”). For example, in order to recommend audio options, generate captions, and provide other personalized recommendations, we may pre-load Content to enhance your experience.

Email contacts: in order to access the Platform and use the Services, you must provide us with an email address to create your profile and be able to log in.

We may also collect user feedback about the Services, should you choose to provide it to us.

3. Automatically Collected Information

We automatically collect certain information from you when you use the Services.

Such information includes your IP address, unique device identifiers, advertising identifiers, network type and connections, mobile device or device model, device manufacturer, country call codes, application version number, operating system, device resolution, language, and system region. When you login from multiple devices, we will be able to use your profile information to identify your activity on multiple devices.

Location: we collect information about your approximate location via your IP address. We may use this information to provide the user with, for example, personalized content.

Usage information: we collect information about how you interact with the Services, including information about the content you view, duration, and frequency of use. This information may include problems encountered while using the Services, content preferences, and videos watched.

Image and audio information: we may collect information about videos, images, and audio that are part of the Content, such as the identification of objects and scenarios that appear in it, the presence and location within an image of somatic features and physical characteristics, the nature of audio, and the text of words spoken in the user's Content. This, for example, can be used for automatic subtitle generation.

4. Cookie

Like many websites and apps, ComPress uses cookies to collect data and recognize you and your devices. These technologies store small pieces of information or access information stored on the user's device to enable certain functions and distinguish the device from others. For example, we use cookies to remember user language preferences, to analyze site traffic and functionality, and for security purposes.

Cookies are used by most apps and website providers to recognize that a device is the same as previously used, for security, to remember user preferences, and to generally improve the user experience.

You have the right to decide whether to accept, to reject non-essential cookies and you have the option to change your device's cookie settings at any time, usually through your browser's “options” or “preferences” menu. Because the ways in which you can reject cookies through web browser controls vary from browser to browser, you should visit your browser's help menu for more information.

However, you should keep in mind that if you choose to reject, disable, or delete cookies, some of the functionality of the Services may no longer be available.

This policy explains what we use this technology for.

Cookies: what they are

Cookies are small text files that allow us and our service providers to uniquely identify your browser or device for various purposes, including those described above. Cookies typically work by assigning a unique number to your device and are stored on your browser by the websites you visit, as well as by third-party service providers and partners of those websites.

Cookies may remain on your computer or mobile device for varying periods of time. Some cookies are “session” cookies, meaning they exist only when the browser is open and are automatically deleted once the browser is closed.

Other cookies are “persistent,” meaning they survive even after the browser is closed. Most persistent cookies are set to expire automatically after some defined period (e.g., after a few days, weeks or months). When you return to that website (or visit other websites that use the same cookies) the website provider or its service providers may recognize the persistent cookies they have set and recognize the device you are browsing with.

Categories of cookies

The types of cookies used by us and our partners in connection with the provision of the Services can be classified into several categories. Some of these categories are “essential” to provide you with the services you have requested, for example, to securely access the Platform.

Cookies, in addition, may be “first-party” or “third-party” cookies.

First-party cookies refer to technologies that we set and use directly. Third-party cookies and similar technologies refer to technologies set by third parties (such as analytics service providers).

The categories of cookies and similar technologies we use are listed below.

Where available, if you choose to use Social Sharing Services, using a third-party service such as Facebook, Google, TikTok, or YouTube, those services provide us with information such as public profile information, including your username, email, and profile picture.

We may use your information to: verify your identity; manage and provide the Services to you; communicate with you, informing you of, among other things, updates to the Services; respond to, manage, and deal with your queries, requests for information, questions, complaints, and feedback; improve and develop the Services, ensuring that the tools on the Services are presented in the most effective way for you and your device and improving our technology; to manage the Services and for internal activities, including troubleshooting, data analysis, testing and research activities; to detect abuse, fraud and illegal activities on the Services and to ensure user protection and safety, including scanning, analyzing and reviewing User Content and associated metadata for violations of our Terms of Service; to provide advertising services, including showing ads to users (including personalized ads), where permitted.

6. Shared user information

The following section indicates how we may share user information with third parties.

These service providers and business partners provide services such as cloud hosting, content distribution, customer and technical support, marketing, and data analytics.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, please note that certain features of ComPress are developed based on integration with YouTube API services (the “YouTube API Services”).

If you choose to use the YouTube API Services, you agree to be bound by YouTube's Terms of Service.

For Google, you may revoke your permission to access your data via the YouTube API Services through the functionality provided by Google on the Google Security Settings page

Third Party Social Network Services

If you choose to use the Services with the credentials of another social network account or another third party service account, or choose to link your account on the Services with other social network accounts, such third party services may collect information about you, including information about your activity on the Services, and notify you of your connections to third party services as part of your use of the Services, in accordance with their privacy policies.

If you choose to allow a third-party service to access your account, we will share certain user information, such as app ID, access token, and referrer URL, with that third-party service. Depending on the permissions granted, the third-party service may be able to obtain your account information and other information that you choose to provide. Where the user chooses to share Content that the user has created or uploaded to the Services with other social media Services, the user's Content, username, and accompanying text (if any) will be shared on those Services.

Measurement Partners

To show ads to you, we may share information collected through your use of the Services (such as device identifiers and device IP address, as well as inferred location information) with our advertising partners. These partners help us provide relevant advertising through our Services.

This information may be collected through cookies or similar tracking technologies to show you more relevant ads. You may opt out of personalized advertising using the advertising control options provided to you in your settings.

We may share information collected through their use with our customers and suppliers. The information shared may be based on the performance of those ads, such as views and interactions with the number of clicks. We may also share aggregate reports on ad campaign performance with advertisers.

7. Data security and retention

We will strive to protect your information and treat it securely and in accordance with this Policy. Unfortunately, the transmission of information over the Internet is not completely secure. We cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted through the Services.

We have in place appropriate technical, administrative, and physical security measures designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, theft, disclosure, modification, or loss. We maintain these technical and organizational measures and will modify them periodically to improve the overall security of our systems.

If you follow a link to any of the websites in the application, you should note that they have their own privacy policies and that we assume no responsibility or obligation with respect to those policies. Please consult the relevant policy before submitting any information to these websites.

We retain your information for as long as necessary to provide you with the service and for the additional purposes set forth in this Privacy Policy or required by law.

Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and the purposes for which we use it. For example, when we process your information to provide you with the Services, we retain information such as your account and profile information for as long as your account is valid.

We implement procedures to limit retention periods. When personal information is no longer needed or its retention is no longer required by law, we take appropriate steps to safely dispose of it in accordance with our internal procedures.

ComPress is not intended for children under the age of 13. The minimum age to use the Services may vary depending on the country or region in which you are located. If you believe that we have collected personal information from a minor under the relevant jurisdiction, please contact us at compress@hiway.media

8. Internal policies and access controls

Access to personal information is limited to employees who need the information to perform their job duties. For example, our service team may have access to certain information during our interactions with you, such as to respond to complaints and inquiries.
